Choosing a dog kennel for you pet can be a daunting task. However, if you follow some basic rules, your options will become much more clear. Before you decide on a kennel, please consider the following items to ensure the safest containment for your pet. Kennel Size, Kennel Shape and Kennel Height are all factors that should be evaluated based on your dogs behavior and the surrounding environment of your kennel.
Kennel Size: This should be based on the size of your yard and the space available to facilitate a kennel run. You cannot have a kennel that is too big, however kennels can be too small. If your dogs kennel is too small you may notice stark behavior changes. Smaller kennels typically mean higher anxiety and instill the feeling of punishment. Kennels are not designed to punish dogs and should be installed to provide secure, outdoor enjoyment. Smaller kennels are favored more by people with smaller breeds that won’t be spending extended periods of time outdoors. Larger containment areas are better suited for dogs that will spend most of their time in the kennel (A weather guard is strongly recommended for these situations).
Kennel Shape: Many of our dog kennels are offered to accommodate a variety of shapes and sizes. The selection of a kennel shape should also be based on your dogs individual behavior. A long, narrow kennel will provide room for hyper dogs to run and burn energy. Whereas a square kennel can be more befitting for dogs that are more tame and want space to sprawl.
Kennel Height: The majority of our kennels are offered in a 4′ or 6′ high option. The four foot high kennel is designed for smaller dogs that cannot jump very high. Six foot high kennels are a safer height for the majority of breeds. At this height, your dog will not jump out and most predators cannot jump in. Six feet is a safer height if you are unsure.
Simply follow these basic guidelines and you can quickly find the perfect dog kennel for your pet.
